Day 12--Keeping Records--NaPoWriMo with Magaly Guerrero 2015

"Lay Your Weary Head to Rest No. 5"
by
Katherine Jeanne Wood

Keeping Records

When Hope died,
she sat down
at her kitchen table
and wrote out all
her Dreams
on slips of paper.
She sealed them
in an envelope,
neatly addressed,
postage attached,
and mailed them
back to herself.
A few days later,
the envelope
arrived in her mailbox.
Carefully, she tucked
it, unopened,
into the box
where she kept
past years tax papers.
This way,
she would always
have proof
of when her life
stopped.

The prompt for today invited us to explore the different topics of Alienation and Detachment.
