On day 4 of NaPoWriMo with Magaly Guerrero 2015, I wish you to write a poem that shows how an emotion might increase physical pain, and vice versa.
Caregiver Bruises
Compassion, service.
Frustration, guilt.
Heartburn.
Compassion, service.
Incredulity, hurt.
Headache.
Compassion, service.
Entitlement, abasement.
Knee and hip pain.
Compassion, service.
Fear, ingratitude.
Anxiety.
Compassion, service.
Resentment, anger.
Higher blood pressure.
Compassion, service.
Shame, guilt.
Neck and shoulder pain.
Compassion, service.
Repeat...

Heartbreaking... especially because I see you in the middle of it. It's so difficult to care for the very sick and the very old (especially if they aren't all that gracious about it; even when they are, it's tough). We are human, so we can't keep our souls from wondering "What if I didn't do this or that?" or stop ourselves from been enraged when instead of "Thanks" we get a slap in the face...
ReplyDeleteCompassion is a great thing to have, particularly when our lives is dedicated to the care (or service) of another... (((♥))
I honestly do not know how people that do it full time manage. Lots of life lessons in there! Thank you!
DeleteOh this is so honest it hurts. So many cases like this and no one to hear them XXX
ReplyDeleteI think that is why we are starting to see support groups for caregivers popping up. They are needful in many ways! Thank you!
DeleteSuch a weary and lonely feeling comes from this poem. I can almost see the pain seeping from the one who needs care right to the caregiver.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a dance of wanting to help, feeling taken advantage of, and then guilt! Thanks, Rommy!

ReplyDeleteA merry go round of frustration and care going around in circles in the hope someone will hear. Beautiful raw and powerful words.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jane. A merry go round is right, but without the brass ring.
