Day 23-Another Bites the Dust-NaPoWriMo with Magaly Guerrero 2015

Another Bites the Dust

Turn, toss,
toss and turn.
Pillow sided
pressure building.
Air restricted.
Roll on over.
No! No!
Can't do that!
Neck cricked,
shoulder paining.
Flip again,
cat flies off.
Pull up knees
to save the back.
Flashing hot,
throw off covers.
Back still achy.
Bottle opened.
Bathroom break.
Vick's smeared.
Pillows tucked.
Chiming Grandfather,
Cuckoo late.
Counting quarters.
Looking east.
Steps descending.
Sighed surrender.

Todays prompt was about pain and sleep, or lack thereof.

  1. Oh, when time and math become the enemy of sleep more than the pain. I bargain with my body. If you'd let me get in three hours of sleep, I could do this or this, but...well that deal expires in about 10 minutes or so. Can you let me sleep 2 hours? I despise that.

  2. Nice write. Good meter and lots of action and emotion in minimal words. Good work.

  3. Exhaustion drives creativity as evident by your words.

  4. Ah, Sleep denied. So we share that in common. Pleasantly sharp, Sharon.

  5. I so recognise every line...especially the curling up of knees to ease the back pain XXX

    1. There are only so many ways to sleep comfortably with lower back pain, for sure!

  6. This reminds of that period of time where I used to get bronchitis almost every year without fail, and spend the rest of the winter wheezing. The flipping, the aching, the Vaporub - never did have a cat though. Well done.

  7. I love, love, love when a piece of writing does what it says and it does it exactly like it's saying it. I paused with each movement of the speaker. And by the time I got to the end, I was also sighing with exhaustion and frustration.
